Ballad in its most basic sense is a song that tells a story. The theme of the story may be anything but most commonly it speaks of love, betrayal and even politics. A classic ballad would normally be about current events of the time, any significant things or happenings would be reflected by new ballad songs.

The songs sung by these Filipino ballad singers usually have a romantic theme that commonly has a little touch of vanity for love. These balladeers all have foreign influences but have also promoted out songs of their own compositions or from fellow Filipino composers.

Martin Nievera another testament of Philippine valour in the music world. He was born in the Philippines but grew up seeing his father perform in Hawaii as member of a group called Society of Seven. At age 20 he went back to the Philippines to follow the footsteps of his father by starting a singing carrier. It did not take long before he released his first album and from that, there was no stopping him in rising up in his carrier. It did not take him long to achieve international recognition. Early this year of 2008 he performed with the Society of Seven together with Lani Misalucha at Las Vegas.

A Filipino through and through, Janno Gibbs known today as the King of Soul here in the Philippines started out as a teen sensation in the Philippine Films. But after fathering a child he changes his carrier to becoming a soul singer which was not impossible because Janno had a good singing voice. His singing works was not unnoticed but was received warmly by his fans and critics alike. Aside from drawing praise because of his voice, he was also regarded as a great comedian, staring in several comedy films and television shows.

Herminio Alcasid Jr. (Ogie) is a well known actor/comedian in the Philipines that has also a lot of other tricks up his sleeve because he is also a great Filipino musician that has a lot to offer in the music world. He has a golden voice, and writes his own songs. It can be safely said that his acting career is eclipse by his own singing career. Currently, he already has nineteen albums released, many of which achieve gold, platinum and double platinum.
